GreenLight™ Laser is utilised for photoselective vaporisation of the prostate (PVP).

The GreenLight™ Laser is a revolutionary non-invasive technique which uses a high power laser beam to vaporise benign prostate, whilst sealing blood vessels as it acts.

The benefits of this over the conventional TURP procedure are that recovery time is much faster, and there is a major reduction in the incidence of severe bleeding, impotence, incontinence and pain arising from the operation.

Our innovative and advancing urology service provides an accessible and affordable means for self-pay (uninsured) patients to gain access to a Urologist who can conduct treatment swiftly and in an affordable manner.

For example our PVP treatment of benign prostate is unique in Ireland, and enables patients to be treated as day cases, as opposed to 5 or 6 night stay, with a lot less discomfort.  The overall cost of this procedure is cut by approximately 50% compared to a standard TURP, and this benefit is passed on to patients.
This new procedure closely follows the new ESWL service successfully introduced in 2011. Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) is a non-invasive treatment of kidney stones and stones in the gallbladder or in the liver using an acoustic pulse.
We also perform a Transrectal Ultrasound of the prostate gland, which is typically used to help diagnose symptoms such as:

•   Nodule felt by a physician during a routine physical exam or prostate cancer screening exam.
•   An elevated blood test result.
•   Difficulty urinating.

Because ultrasound provides real-time images, it allows us to guide procedures such as needle biopsies, in which a needle is used to sample cells from an abnormal area in the prostate gland for (in-house) laboratory testing.
